What are Google Shopping Ads?

Google Shopping Ads are paid product ads built from information in Google Merchant Center. They are intended for retailers and can show a product image, title, price, store name and other product information before someone clicks.

Where is it seen?

Shopping Ads can appear on eligible Google shopping and search surfaces. Product data can be used through Shopping campaigns or Performance Max, depending on the account and campaign setup.

What does it look like?

A Shopping Ad is product-led rather than a standard text ad. It typically includes the product image, product title, price, retailer or store name and other attributes Google is eligible to show from the product feed.

How does it work?

The retailer submits structured product data to Merchant Center and links it to Google Ads. Google uses the product feed together with campaign settings and auction signals to decide which products are eligible for a person’s search or browsing context.

Is it instant? How long does it take?

Shopping is not instant because products need to be submitted, processed and eligible in Merchant Center before paid campaigns can use them. Feed errors, policy issues, shipping settings or account reviews can delay products from serving.

Why can’t I see it?

Your product may not appear because it is not eligible, the search is not relevant enough, another product is preferred, the campaign is limited by budget or bidding, or the product feed contains an issue. A product can also be active without appearing on every relevant search.

Who decides what appears?

You control the product data you submit, pricing, availability, landing pages, campaign budget and many campaign settings. Google controls product eligibility, policy review and the auction that determines which paid products show.

What does it cost?

Shopping campaigns are auction-based. Cost depends on competition, products, bidding, market and campaign goals. Performance Max retail campaigns often use automated bidding toward conversion volume or value, while Standard Shopping provides a different set of campaign controls.

How do you know if it is working?

Useful measures include product impressions, clicks, cost, purchases or leads, conversion value, cost per acquisition and ROAS. Retail reporting should also be reviewed by product or product group so weak feed data or unprofitable items do not hide inside overall totals.
