Setting Up a Google Analytics 4 (GA4) Account

Stage 1: Initial Setup and Access Verification

Step 1: Navigate to Google Analytics

Step 2: Sign In

  • Action: Click on the ‘Sign in’ option at the top right of the page.
  • Outcome: If you are greeted with a ‘Get Started’ screen, it indicates you do not have an existing Analytics account.

Step 3: Understand User Roles and Permissions

  • Explanation: Google Analytics accounts are structured into three levels: Account, Property, and View. The Account is the highest level, containing one or more Properties. Properties represent individual websites or apps.
    • Account: Top-level access where users can manage administrative settings and user permissions.
    • Property: Contains the tracking data for a specific website or app. Users can have different permissions for different properties.

Step 4: Verify Admin Access

  • Action: Navigate to “Account Access Management” within the Admin settings.
  • Outcome:
    • If you see a “Request Access” screen, you do not have admin access to the Analytics account.
    • If you are able to view and modify user roles and permissions, you have admin access.

Step 5: Resolve Access Issues

  • Action: If you do not have the necessary access:
    • Option 1: Contact the account administrator to request access. Provide your email address and specify the access level required (admin access is needed to manage the account effectively).
    • Option 2: If uncertain who the account administrator is or if further issues arise, contact our support team for assistance.
